PT Engineering developed a traffic safety analysis for the proposed widening of US 64 from US 601 south of Mocksville to US 52 in Lexington in Davidson and Davie Counties. The study area was broken into three segments to allow for comparisons of crash rates for similar route types. Three 5-year crash analyses were
summarized with breakdowns of crash types as well as crash rate comparisons of the
study sections to the statewide crash rates of similar route types. The critical crash rates for the segments
were also calculated to determine if the study crash rates exceeded the critical crash
rates. The purpose of the analysis was to determine if further safety studies need to be investigated in the project area.
