PT Engineering developed a traffic forecast for the final design phase of the project that included the widening of US 74, the addition of Express Lanes and construction of parallel collector streets along the corridor from NC 24 to I-485 in Mecklenburg County. The forecast included utilizing the Metrolina Regional Model (MRM) output to develop a 2018 Base Year No-Build, 2045 Future Year No-Build, and a 2045 Future Year Build forecast. The forecast includes 50 intersections and 75 development nodes that account for local access along the corridor. The forecast utilized TransModeler to develop a simulation of the network, including the modeling of the express lanes using variable rate HOT modules and dynamic traffic assignment. The final product of the forecast was both a traffic forecast and a set of balanced turning movement volumes for all intersections within the network.
